After Care Checklist: What you can and cannot do after eyebrow embroidery or microblading

As lockdowns lift, more people have turned their focus to makeup creativity, and a renewed interest in eyebrows can be seen over the past few months. For some, the uncertainty over what you can and cannot do after getting your eyebrows microbladed (or eyebrow embroidery as it is more commonly known) can be nerve wrecking.

If you've just completed your first microblading, or eyebrow embroidery, procedure, it is necessary for you to take care of the area of skin where the microblading took place. Following the after care checklist below will help your skin to heal properly post microblading, giving you best results for your brows.

Before we share the after care tips, it is necessary for you to be aware of the following:

  1. It is normal for the pigment (in your eyebrows) to appear quite dark immediately after the procedure.
  2. Some redness around the skin near your eyebrow area after the procedure (depending on your skin type) is completely normal as well.
  3. Your eyebrows may continue to be dark over the next couple of days, and some scabbing may become visible. The eyebrows will lighten up as it heals.
  4. It usually takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over For the color to fully set in, it will take about 1 month.
  5. No down time is required after your eyebrow embroidery procedure.

Once you understand the above phenomena, you will now need to know the after-care measures you can take to ensure proper healing of your skin and brows. Here are the steps you can follow after your brow embroidery session:

  • Avoid getting the area wet. Keep them as dry as possible for up to a week.
  • Do not put lotions or ointment on your brows.
  • Do not visit a sauna, go swimming or sun tanning for at least 1 week.
  • Apply a light layer of healing cream to your brows twice a day for at least 5-7 days
  • Do not apply makeup or skin care products on the brow area for a minimum of 2 weeks. This will prevent infection from occurring as the microbladed area is an open wound.
  • Your brow area will feel slightly itchy as it heals and light scabbing will appear. Be sure not to pick or peel those scabs.

While the rate of healing varies between individual (due to reasons such as differences in skin type etc.), following the above instructions will help yield you the best results. And don't forget to go back to your brow studio after 4-6 weeks for your touch up session, so that pigment color and brow thickness can be adjusted, or more strokes can be added.
